Five Google Chrome extensions I use

Here is a list of a few extensions I use and why I use them:

  1. Smooth Gestures - I originally started using gestures on opera and this extension allows me to continue with chrome.  A quick small gesture is easier and faster than relocating the mouse back to the navigation bar and moving it back into the page area.
  2. Clickable Links - Some web pages do not format URLs to be clickable.  This extension saves me the time of copying and pasting links.
  3. StumbleUpon - When I've read all of the new links on reddit, I start using this extension to find some new websites.  While most of what I see isn't something I'd want to visit again, it is nice to see a wide variety of what the web has to offer.
  4. Web Developer - A wide array of tools packed with this extension make my life easier when working on web pages, including testing various browser sizes, double-checking all of the measurements of page elements, and editing the page's CSS inline rather than repeatedly saving the CSS file and reloading.
  5. Forecastfox Weather - I can quickly check how the weather is looking for today and the rest of the week, so I can plan accordingly.
I hope this list has introduced you to some extensions you will consider using yourself.

How to add google adsense to your blog

I've never placed adsense on blogger before and I figured I would write a bit about it to help anyone who is starting a blog.
  1. Open a Google AdSense account (if you haven't already) and click the tab My Ads
  2. Click new ad unit
  3. Follow the steps on the page.  You might want to add a channel in case you place adsense on other pages so you can track where your earnings are coming from
  4. Click Save and get code
  5. Copy the HTML code to your clipboard
  6. Open up Blogger and go to your dashboard
  7. Click the Design tab in the blog management panel
  8. Click on one of the Add a Gadget links where you want to place this ad.  Popular spots are directly under the header and in the menu on the side of the blog
  9. Leave the Title box blank, and paste the code into the Content box
  10. Click Save
That's all you need to do to get your adsense ads on your blog.  Good luck!

My new for-fun blog

I've decided to start a new blog. I am always coming across funny and interesting articles on the internet and I'd like to share them with others. Hopefully along the way I'll learn something myself, and improve my writing skills all the while.

For my first article I'd like to point you towards a lesser-known subreddit named webdev. At the time of this posting it only had a little over 2,500 readers, which pales in comparison to the 256,000 readers of the programming subreddit.

As a web developer myself, I often have a hard time wading through miscellaneous articles which are advertised as web-related, but ultimately fall under the category of web design. The webdev subreddit helps filter out such articles and makes it easier for me to find articles which interest me. If you have a reddit account, I'd like to ask that you visit the webdev subreddit and add yourself as a reader to assist in getting more exposure across the entire site. If you are a web developer yourself, I'd love to see some of your own articles posted there.
